lina Located in São Paulo, Brazil, the Praia JK sand sports complex, designed by Soek Arquitetura, represents a unique approach to recreational architecture. Completed in 2023, this project prioritizes temporality, sustainability, and modular construction to create a versatile and eco-friendly space for sports and leisure activities.
Concept and Design
Guided by the idea of temporality, the Praia JK complex was designed to occupy a vacant lot temporarily, utilizing pre-fabricated and modular solutions for efficient assembly and future dismantling. The majority of the lot is dedicated to sand courts, while the remaining space accommodates ancillary facilities such as changing rooms, administrative spaces, and dining areas. A grid of white-painted metal beams and pillars forms the structural framework, providing support for the enclosed programmatic elements.
Sustainable Features
To enhance user comfort and energy efficiency, passive sun control systems were integrated into the design. Perforated wavy screen panels and linear brises were strategically positioned to filter direct sunlight, creating a comfortable environment for users. The choice of materials, including exposed aggregate flooring and natural wood cladding, reflects the organic elements present in the complex and promotes a sense of harmony with the surrounding environment.
Integration of Vegetation
Vegetation plays a crucial role in softening the industrial aesthetic of the complex. Voids in the floor of the upper level allow vegetation to permeate the structural grid, creating a dynamic interplay between built form and nature. Vedelias, xanadus, and philodendrons cascade from planters, adding a lush greenery to the upper level and breaking the monotony of the industrial elements.
