Embracing Sustainability: The Sustainable Weekend Villa

David Hernández

In the serene setting of Ho Tram, South Vietnam, T3 ARCHITECTS and KANOPÉA Architecture Studio collaborated to craft the Sustainable Weekend Villa, a tropical retreat that epitomizes the principles of bioclimatic architecture. Commissioned by a client seeking respite from urban life, this villa is a testament to sustainable living amidst the lush Vietnamese countryside.

Integrating Nature and Functionality

With a focus on creating a functional yet inviting living space, the design team meticulously studied wind patterns, rainfall, and sun exposure. The villa comprises two main sections: one dedicated to living spaces, seamlessly connected to the garden, and the other offering climate-controlled comfort through innovative insulation techniques. By minimizing reliance on air conditioning, the design fosters natural ventilation and a sense of inner calm.

Crafting a Harmonious Layout

The villa’s layout forms a “T” shape, with private areas such as bedrooms and offices facing the road, ensuring privacy for communal spaces like the living room and kitchen, which open onto the garden and pool. An outdoor dining area with a barbecue provides a perfect setting for tropical evenings, while a gym tucked away in the garden offers leisure opportunities.

Sustainable Design Solutions

The villa’s roofing, insulated with rice husks, offers natural cooling and protection from monsoon rains. Wide roof overhangs shield the facades, and strategic lighting design by Kobi Lighting Studio enhances architectural features while minimizing light pollution. The landscape design prioritizes local species and low-maintenance plants, aligning with a frugal and sustainable approach.

Embracing Simplicity and Sustainability

In a world marked by urban chaos, the Sustainable Weekend Villa stands as a haven of tranquility and sustainability. Designed to provide an escape while adhering to principles of bioclimatic architecture, it offers a retreat where nature, family, and friends converge in harmony. T3 ARCHITECTS and KANOPÉA Architecture Studio have crafted not just a villa, but a sustainable sanctuary that embodies the essence of simplicity and frugality.
