Situated in Sharq, Kuwait, BBT Hilltop Restaurant, designed by TAEP/AAP architects, stands as a testament to innovative urban design and multifunctional architecture. This project reimagines the concept of a canopy, transforming it into a vibrant urban installation at the heart of the bustling business city center.
A Hub of Activity
BBT Hilltop Restaurant serves as a dynamic gathering place, offering multiple functionalities throughout the day. Beneath the canopy, it houses a drive-in restaurant and an outdoor esplanade, providing a versatile space for dining and socializing.
Ludic Contemplation Area
Atop the canopy, a ludic contemplation area invites visitors to enjoy panoramic views while dining or relaxing. A unique feature of this space is a stand that doubles as a seating area and playground, complete with an interactive slide that complements the canopy’s incline. Additionally, the area can be transformed into an outdoor theater or cinema, equipped with the necessary infrastructure for various shows and events.
Innovative Design
The canopy’s structure encompasses the interior restaurant area and logistical spaces, featuring a striking contrast of materials. Wrapped in matte paint and metallic mesh on the outside, and glossy white ceramic tiles on the inside, the canopy creates a visually captivating environment. Strategic openings ensure ample ventilation, access, and natural lighting, enhancing the overall comfort and functionality of the space.
Vertical Dialogue
A central element of harmony within the design is the red spiral staircase, serving as the main vertical connection between the restaurant and the canopy’s summit. This staircase fosters a constant dialogue between the interior and exterior spaces, reinforcing the seamless integration of the two.
Embracing Natural Materials
Reflecting the restaurant’s commitment to sustainability, the construction of BBT Hilltop Restaurant utilizes raw, naturally sourced materials.
