Embracing Natural Imagery

Hiha Studio undertook the ambitious task of urban regeneration, breathing new life into an 8110m2 area that was once an abandoned sports facility. The primary objective was to reimagine the landscape, drawing inspiration from the region’s agricultural past. Emphasizing linearity and cultivated nature, the design aimed to evoke the imagery of plowed fields and orchards that once thrived in the area.

Harmonizing with Biodiversity

A key challenge was to establish a dialogue between the park and the biodiversity of Turó de les Tres Creus. Half of the park’s surface was designated for vegetation, allowing natural cycles to gradually transform the landscape. Hydroseeding was employed to stimulate growth, while the park’s design prioritized autochthonous species with high CO₂ absorption capacities, fostering biodiversity and decarbonization.

Sustainable Practices

To minimize environmental impact, existing structures from the abandoned sports facilities were repurposed. The demolished mass was transformed into gravel for drainage ditches and pavements, showcasing a commitment to resourcefulness and sustainability. The park’s design also prioritized water management, with drainage systems facilitating rainwater infiltration into the ground, achieving significant annual infiltration rates.

Enhancing Community Spaces

Beyond ecological considerations, the project sought to improve the quality of life for local residents by addressing deficiencies in public space. Through a participatory process, spatial activities and programs were organized to meet the needs of the community. The revitalized park serves as a dynamic and inclusive hub for social interaction, recreation, and relaxation, enriching the lives of those in the neighborhood.
