Mühle GmbH & Co.KG, a renowned manufacturer of shaving products, has upheld a tradition of excellence since 1945 in Stützengrün, Germany. The recent replacement of Hall 4 marks an expansion of their facilities, blending tradition with modernity while maintaining the company’s strong identity.
Design Philosophy
The design goal was to seamlessly integrate the new building into the existing factory complex while creating a structure that stands out with its unique identity. Despite its industrial function, the building communicates the exceptional quality of Mühle’s products through its design.
Architectural Features
Situated between existing halls 3 and 5, the new building exceeds its neighbors in height, adhering to urban planning guidelines. It comprises a one-story production section and a smaller two-story section housing offices and administrative rooms. The upper floor features a spacious consultation room.
Innovative Facade
The exterior of the building boasts a sleek glass facade, allowing natural light to flood the interior and providing a glimpse into the production processes. Aluminum profiles structure the facade, adding a touch of modernity, while a warm wooden core adds an element of surprise and comfort.
Sustainable Construction
In line with the company’s commitment to sustainability and the use of renewable materials, the building incorporates various wooden structural components, including supports, beams, ceilings, and roofs. Heating is provided by a geothermal heat pump, with electricity generated by photovoltaic elements on the green roof.
Conclusion: Balancing Tradition and Progress
The Mühle Shaving Offices exemplify a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation, and sustainability. By seamlessly integrating modern design elements with renewable materials and energy-efficient systems, the project not only expands the company’s facilities but also reflects its enduring commitment to quality and environmental stewardship.
